Used in combat by the British Royal
Naval Air Service, this innovative three wing design gave the Sopwith Triplane increased maneuverability and climb rate, as
compared to the biplanes. Visibility from the cockpit was outstanding but the Sopwith was slower and less heavily armed than its
German opponents. The Germans were impressed with its performance and a captured Sopwith Triplane inspired the development of
the Fokker Dr.I.
